HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Are you an active duty Air Force member who plans to travel soon outside the continental United States (OCONUS) while on leave or temporary duty?
If so, then you will need to schedule a travel medicine appointment with the 66th Medical Squadron’s Public Health Office on base before leaving.
Hanscom Air Force Base Foreign Travel Policy states, “Any active duty Air Force member traveling OCONUS must schedule an appointment with Public Health before leave/TDY is approved. However, sister services, dependents and retirees are not mandated, but encouraged to come to Public Health for a travel medicine brief.”
At the travel medicine appointment, Public Health staff will create a destination-specific health protection recommendation report that provides country-specific travel recommendations and a summary of the preventive measures the traveler should take prior to departure, while traveling and then upon return (as applicable).
The report will include:
Environment health and endemic disease threats and applicable countermeasures
Medical entry requirements (if applicable)
Immunization requirements
Malaria risk and prophylaxis recommendations
Other health/safety concerns as applicable or as requested by traveler
Travel medicine appointments should be scheduled four weeks prior to departure date to ensure adequate time to complete preventive medicine requirements. This includes scheduling an appointment with a primary care manager for anti-malaria prophylaxis and completing vaccinations.
Active duty Air Force members must complete all medical requirements in order to receive the travel medicine memorandum. The memorandum must be uploaded to Leave Web before your commander can approve leave.
To schedule a travel medicine brief, call the Public Health Office at 781-225-6295.
