HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Lt. Col. Shana Figueroa took command of Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Detachment 7 during a ceremony at the Minuteman Commons here June 7.

Lt. Gen. Robert D. McMurry, AFLCMC commander, presided over the change of command ceremony, in which Lt. Col. Maria T. Beecher relinquished command.

“The change of command is deeply rooted, but I think it’s particularly important that we understand that it is a characteristic transferring of official authority, transferring of official responsibility, from one person to the next,” said McMurry, who was at Hanscom for his first visit since taking command of AFLCMC last month.

Figueroa’s career has spanned a wide range of assignments and locations.

Most recently, she served as the chief of the Education and Training Branch in the Security Assistance Office while deployed to Afghanistan supporting NATO-led Operation Resolute Support.

After thanking Beecher for leadership to the detachment, McMurry spoke about his expectations for and confidence in the new commander.

“I am counting on you to continue the long line of success we’ve had here, and to set the standard for excellence for the Airmen that are here. I am absolutely confident you can do it,” he said.

As commander of one of AFLCMC’s five detachments, Figueroa will have administrative authority of more than 450 military personnel within the center’s Hanscom-based directorates.

She is responsible for advising Hanscom’s program executive officers on military personnel management and providing administrative control over members, including overseeing deployments, training, fitness, medical evaluations and discipline.

During her remarks, the new commander discussed her priorities for the detachment.

“I can’t wait to take this team that is already excellent, and be excellent for all of you,” she said. “By doing our job excellently, we’re going to enable all of you to your jobs excellently.”

In addition to the change of command, during the ceremony McMurry presented Beecher with the Meritorious Service Medal.

“My number one goal as the commander of Detachment 7 was to ensure that every member of Detachment 7 supported knew the detachment existed and understood how the detachment supported them,” Beecher said. “I truly want to thank everyone who assisted me over the past two years.”

Beecher will move to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, to work for the Cyber Resiliency Office for Weapons Systems, also known as CROWS.
