HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The United States Air Force announces the availability of a draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for the proposed highly efficient, low-emitting, combined heat and power cogeneration system to modernize and update Hanscom's current steam plant and grid-purchased electricity infrastructure by NORESCO.
The Proposed Action is necessary to achieve the goals of the Air Force Strategic Energy Plan, as well as the regulations and EOs regarding energy security, reliability, and efficiency for Air Force facilities.
The draft EA and FONSI address the site-specific impacts of the CHP and evaluate the consequences of the proposed action and alternatives on the natural and man-made environments. Any impacts related to the proposed action are anticipated to be minor and the best management practices provided in the EA and FONSI would further reduce any impact.
Copies of the EA and FONSI are available for review at the main public libraries in Bedford, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, Mass., and at the Hanscom AFB Environmental Office in Building 1825.
For further information concerning the EA and FONSI, please contact the Environmental Office at Hanscom AFB at 781-225-6142.
Written comments on the EA and FONSI will be received through July 21 and may be mailed to: Renata Welch, 66 ABG/CEIE, 72 Dow Street, Hanscom AFB, MA 01731 or emailed to renata.welch@us.af.mil.
