HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Medical Service Corps Appreciation Week is Oct. 30 through Nov. 3.

What is the Medical Service Corps you ask? Well, MSC personnel, also known as the enlisted 4A Air Force career field, are the administrative leaders of Air Force Medical Service.

If you have made a doctor's appointment at the clinic, or requested a copy of your medical records, undergone a medical evaluation board or received a referral for subspecialty care, then a health care management technician, known as a 4A0, has provided that service.

If you have picked up a joint first aid kit prior to a deployment, or a prescription at the pharmacy, a medical material specialist, known as a 4A1, was behind the scenes getting that item.

If you've ever had an X-ray, a computed tomography (CT scan) or computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan, or even had your blood pressure taken, then a biomedical maintenance technician, known also as a 4A2, did their job of maintaining the medical equipment to make sure you received “Trusted Care.”

If you ask us, there's nothing like the rush of filing medical records just right, conducting a medical supply inventory or even calibrating a scale.

Our wartime mission includes most of the tasks listed above, but we also transport medical supplies to forward operating bases, and coordinate aeromedical evacuation for wounded Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen to higher echelons of care.

A health care management technician is usually the first person you meet at the clinic, and we know that when you are not feeling well or have a sick child, you understandably want to see your provider and feel better so that you can get back to life.

We want all our beneficiaries to know that we have our fingers on the pulse of the clinic and are proud to support the Military Treatment Facility and serve you by ensuring the continuity of your care.
