Former employees selected for Memorial Park induction Published June 14, 2018 By Mark Wyatt 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Hanscom officials announced that three deceased former base employees will have trees planted in their honor during a ceremony July 31 at 10 a.m. at Hanscom Heroes Memorial Park here. Bronze plaques will display the names of Capt. Arlene Love, Marie McClanahan and Eric Rober at the foot of three trees in the park, located beside the base clinic. “Friends, family and past colleagues are invited to attend this special event as we fondly remember three former employees who contributed greatly to the Hanscom community,” said Bobby Jacques, 66th Air Base Group Executive Services chief and organizer of this event. Hanscom Heroes Memorial Park, which opened in 1991, recognizes late members of the Hanscom community. With the dedication of these three trees next month, the total number honoring former Hanscom military and civilian personnel will be 75. According to Jacques, officials dedicate up to three trees annually for former employees who have made a significant impact at the base. “The trees we plant serve as a lasting tribute to the impact each inductee had at Hanscom,” said Jacques. Capt. Arlene Love Love was born in Braintree, Massachusetts, in 1929. She was the director of the Retiree Activities Office for more than 30 years. “In 1981 she volunteered to work in the Hanscom Retiree Activities Office,” said Dean Mottard, current director of the RAO. “She became the director in 1984. During that time, she dedicated herself to working with and assisting military retirees and their survivors with health care and support services.” Love joined the Air Force Nurse Corps during the Korean War and received her wings as a flight nurse. Marie McClanahan McClanahan was born in Chelsea, Mass., in 1939. She worked at Hanscom for more than 40 years, ascending to chief of the Manpower and Organization Division before her retirement. “Marie McClanahan was an absolute pillar of the Hanscom community for more than 40 years, where she left an extraordinary legacy of indelible achievement and lasting contributions to both mission success and the welfare of the entire Hanscom community,” said Alicyn Cerulli, a former Hanscom employee who nominated McClanahan. In addition to her work at Hanscom, McClanahan was active in the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, serving as the longtime manager of AFCEA’s Diversity Program. Eric Rober Rober was born in South Weymouth, Mass., in 1963. He first started working at Hanscom in 2010. He began working for the 66th Civil Engineering Division in 2012. “Although his time working in our organization was unfortunately cut short, his lasting fingerprints remain not only on the programs and projects he expertly performed but also on the lives and careers of everyone he came in contact with,” said Thomas Schluckebier, CE director. “Nothing illustrates his positive influence better than being the key member on four distinctly different teams that were acknowledged by the Air Base Group awards program in just a two year span.” Rober also served in the Air Force from 1987 to 1993.
