HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The 66th Air Base Group Safety Office will take part in a national safety campaign led by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Aug. 13 through 19.

The campaign, known as Safe & Sound Week, is a nationwide effort to promote safety and health programs in the workplace.

“At the core of our safety and health program at Hanscom Air Force Base is Quest for Zero through risk management, which identifies potential risks before an injury occurs to personnel at work or at home,” said Mason Robbins, 66 ABG safety and occupational health specialist. “The Safety Office is committed to providing the safest possible environment for all members of Team Hanscom.”

Quest for Zero is an Air Force Safety Center initiative that the base safety office practices.

“It is important for individuals to use the Wingman concept at home or in the workplace,” Robbins said. “Look out for one another and wear appropriate personal protective equipment when necessary to attain zero injuries.”

He also added that it is important to identify safety issues up the chain of command and not walk by a safety hazard without responding appropriately to fix it.

As part of the weeklong safety campaign, base safety officials will work with unit safety representatives to identify and manage workplace hazards.

“It is our goal to reduce the number of open safety findings by 25 percent throughout the weeklong campaign,” said Robbins.

Robbins added that while the overall safety program is strong at Hanscom, he hopes the Safe & Sound campaign will strengthen it even more.

“Every unit at Hanscom has an effective safety program,” he said. “What we hope to achieve during the week is to energize each safety and health program to eliminate workplace injuries altogether.”
