Base exercise activities may cause delays, interruptions

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Hanscom AFB will conduct an exercise scenario the week of Nov. 13 to evaluate the installation’s readiness and emergency response capabilities.

According to organizers, conducting scenarios such as this allows evaluators to look at areas for improvements during controlled events. Organizers stress that exercises such as these help the installation prepare for real-world situations.

During the scenario, there will be base-wide engagement, during which personnel should expect delays and disruptions in normal business operations. Some events could result in traffic delays entering and exiting the base, as well as restrictions around the installation.

Base officials have emphasized safety to all involved in the scenarios, and if any real-world emergency takes place, they will stop the exercise immediately. Wing Inspection Team members will be monitoring all events, and if any member of Team Hanscom sees an unsafe practice during the exercise, he or she should report it immediately to a WIT member, identifiable by blue vests. All WIT members have the ability to stop the exercise.

As a reminder, 911 should only be used for real-world emergencies. For questions or concerns concerning exercise events, base personnel should contact the WIT at 781-225-1317 or 781-225-1300.
