Lexington, Mass. – A Hanscom Air Force Base lieutenant was honored at an AFCEA International Conference held in San Diego last month.

1st Lt. Manuel Hernandez, an executive officer with the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Airspace Mission Planning Division, received the “Division CGO of the Quarter for 2Q-CY 18.”

AFCEA presented Hernandez its prestigious Distinguished Young AFCEAN Award for his outstanding support to its Lexington-Concord Chapter. The organization cited him for, among other things, co-leading the chapter’s 2018 Scholarship Luncheon by orchestrating a 15-person team to plan and execute the event and provide 21 Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets with $22,000 in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) scholarships.

He was also commended for his leadership in planning and executing the chapter’s annual “5K Run,” where he directed the event’s activities and served as master of ceremonies, raising an additional $8,000 in support of STEM-centric projects.

In addition, AFCEA also singled out Hernandez for his mentorship as part of the Company Grade Officers Council’s Executive Team, where he has guided young officers on networking and career development via professional organizations such as AFCEA.

“Lt. Manuel A. Hernandez was born to lead. He is truly a model Young AFCEAN who has distinguished himself personally and professionally,” said Lexington-Concord Chapter President Pat Marr.
