HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Base officials recently announced changes to the location of the 66th Security Forces Squadron’s Pass and ID section and the hours for card service for the Military Personnel Flight.
The 66th Security Forces Squadron’s Pass and ID section is now located at the Visitor’s Center near the Sartain Gate here. Defense-affiliated personnel requiring ID cards must continue to go to Building 1305 customer service for their ID cards.
Pass and ID provides Defense Biometric Identification System, or DBIDS, cards for individuals visiting or working on the installation who do not require access to the Department of Defense computer network.
“The non-DOD-contractor DBIDS card allows Security Forces to verify authorizations and assign access privileges based on identity, affiliation and the current threat level,” said Master Sgt. Kameron Clark, 66 SFS Installation Security Section chief.
Clark noted that individuals who require access to the installation for more than 60 days would receive a DBIDS card, while those requiring access for one to 60 days receive a paper pass.
“Each organization and mission partner on the installation maintains a certifying official who works directly with the Pass and ID section to properly request DBIDS cards,” said Clark.
Those who need a DBIDS card should go to the Visitor’s Center on Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The Visitor’s Center is open from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for sponsorship of visitors.
“The Military Personnel Flight in Building 1305 provides military personnel, Department of Defense civilians and contractors, dependents, 100-percent disabled veterans and retirees ID cards for base access,” said 2nd Lt. Ryan Weiss, 66 FSS Career Development chief.
Personnel can schedule an appointment through the Real-Time Automated Personnel Identification System, or RAPIDS, at https://rapids-appointments.dmdc.osd.mil, which Weiss highly recommends.
Weiss said that wait times for walk-ins could sometimes be up to 90 minutes on a busy day.
The Military Personnel Flight will expand its ID card service hours to 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. beginning April 1, except federal holidays and Air Force Materiel Command Family Days when the MPF is closed.
Clark points out that all ID cards have DBIDS capability.
“DBIDS is a handheld card-scanning tool that uses barcodes and biometrics to identify cardholders and properly vet them,” he said.
According to SFS officials, the system is a force protection and identity management program
“If an individual’s status changes for any reason, once the status is updated in DBIDS, all installation entry controllers throughout DOD will see the status change,” said Clark. “The scanner also allows entry controllers to identify personnel with warrants.”
The Defense Manpower Data Center, owners of the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, or DEERS, and RAPIDS, maintain the DBIDS system.
