HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – During the month of April Hanscom personnel can participate in annual Patriots’ Day events taking place in the towns surrounding the base.

Patriots’ Day commemorates the opening battle of the American Revolution in 1775. The 2019 holiday will be officially observed April 15, but celebrations will take place in Bedford, Concord and Lexington throughout April.

“We often take it for granted, but it is fascinating to remember that the American Revolution began here in Lexington and Concord,” said Chuck Hacala, chairman of the 2019 Liberty Pole Capping Committee. “The Patriots’ Day events commemorate the first hard-fought battles that gained our independence from England. It is important to remember those brave farmers and soldiers that took up arms and fought to secure our freedom and independence.”

The following is a sampling of events taking place around the area. For further information, please visit the Minute Man National Historical Park website at https://www.nps.gov/mima/, view the Battle Road website at www.battleroad.org or go to the Lexington History website at http://www.lexingtonhistory.org/patriotsday.html.
