HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – 66th Logistics Readiness Squadron offers members of the workforce a free taxi service for official business during normal business hours here.
The program provides free shuttle service around base for official government business and to Logan International Airport for personnel on official travel orders.
Users must request Logan International Airport transportation 24 hours prior to travel to allow time to schedule a driver and ensure vehicle availability.
“The service is available for anyone on official travel, such as those completing temporary duty requirements or permanently changing station,” said Diana Cole, 66 LRS vehicle dispatcher. “Travelers can make online reservations for shuttle transportation to and from Logan International Airport.”
Officials added that the service reduces inconvenience and expense for Hanscom travelers who arrange for their own transportation to Logan Airport.
This no-cost service is available for travelers departing from and arriving at Logan International Airport, as long as the departure or arrival takes place during normal business hours from 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The service is not available on holidays or weekends.
Cole notes there are no shuttle departures from Logan International Airport to Hanscom AFB after 4 p.m.
“Riders must be ready to depart the airport with bags in hand at 4 p.m.,” Cole added.
Personnel can make reservations at the secure LRS SharePoint site at https://cs2.eis.af.mil/sites/22388/eshuttle/default.aspx.
The site includes a frequently asked question section to assist base personnel.
“It’s important for travelers to attach a copy of their orders when making an online reservation,” said Cole. “Failure to do so can cause delay in processing your shuttle reservation.”
In addition to their travel services, LRS also offers U-Drive-It vehicles to organizations and temporarily assigned personnel on official orders.
As defined by Air Force Instruction 24-301, “the UDI vehicle is available to organizations and activities of the installation for temporary support of official use functions and operated by personnel assigned to the using agency in support of home-station mission, contingencies, TDY [temporary duty] support and combat service support operations.”
Use of these vehicles is generally limited to a 72-hour period and there are some limitations associated with the program. However, LRS will consider each request on a case-by-case basis.
To submit a request for travel, UDI support or for additional information, please contact LRS at 781-225-5830 or by email at 66.LRS.LGRDDO.Vehicle.Request@us.af.mil.
