SFS host Police Week activities

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The 66th Security Forces Squadron here will host events May 13 through 17 in recognition of National Police Week.

National Police Week pays special recognition to federal and local law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

“The 66th Security Forces Squadron observes Police Week each year to remember and honor those law enforcement personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we live in safety and in peace,” said Staff Sgt. Mark Devine, 66 SFS Police Week organizer.

SFS officials have planned events each day throughout week.

Events will begin with an opening ceremony at the POW/MIA Monument on Monday, May 13, at 9 a.m. Following that ceremony, SFS and Air Force Office of Special Investigations will host a three-mile ruck march beginning at the same location at 10 a.m. Both events are open to the entire base community. All those interested may where the uniform of the day or civilian clothes.

On Tuesday, May 14, SFS officials invite four-person teams to participate in a free, timed obstacle course outside Building 1444. The course challenges will consist of carrying an ammo can and dummy, pushing a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle a set distance and a weapons relay.

Security Forces officials will host a Family Fun Day event on Wednesday, May 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the field beside the Child Development Center. This event will include family activities, as well as military working dog and combat arms demonstrations.

“We hope this event will bring the community together for some fun, but also to learn more about Air Force Security Forces and what we do,” said Senior Airman Ricara Henderson, event organizer.

On Thursday, May 16, at 2:30 p.m., Maj. Brett Skates, SFS commander, will open the fourth-annual 24-Hour End of Watch Memorial Run at the base track in memory of those who gave their life in the line of duty, including Senior Airmen Kcey Ruiz and Nathan Sartain.

The run will begin at 3 p.m. and continue for 24-hours. All are welcome to participate, including families.

To close out Police Week activities, members of the base community can attend a closing ceremony at the Minuteman Commons Tavern May 17 at 3:30 p.m.
