HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Hanscom Spouses Club recently awarded scholarships to graduating seniors and military spouses during the 58th annual HSC Scholarship Awards Night at the Minuteman Commons here.

HSC officers awarded nearly $40,000 to 13 high school graduates and three spouses, each of whom will pursue degrees in the fall.

Avery Gamache, who will attend the University of New Hampshire and major in Occupational Therapy, received the Chief of Staff Award and $4,000 as the top academic achieving student.

Other students and spouses receiving scholarships include:

The Jeanne M. Richter Memorial Award, $1,750 – Elizabeth Stavinos
The Carmen Schipper Award, $2,500 – Shaina McGarry
The Col. Chuck Jones Memorial Award, $2,500 – Marie Stewart
The Brian Sweeney Memorial Award, $2,000 – Lauren Murphy
The Purple Dandelion Military Child Award, $2,500 – Lillian Dinoto

Additional recipients were Katherine Bartley, Katherine Coakley, Meghan Collins, Danielle Eicher, Trudy Grogan, Maeghan Kleinebreil, Christopher LaCourse, Kirbie O’Brien, Mary Reyling and Micah Warren.

The Hanscom Spouses Club raised more than $40,000 this year from the Thrift Shop, corporate donors and benefactors. Without these contributions, and the scholarship committee, the HSC scholarship program would not be possible.

Throughout the past 58 years, the Hanscom Spouses Club has offered scholarships to military dependent children and spouses. The intent of these scholarships is to support graduating high school seniors and spouses of members of any branch of the armed forces.

The first HSC scholarship award was given in 1961.
