HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Hanscom AFB will conduct base exercise scenarios the week of June 10 to evaluate the installation’s readiness and emergency response capabilities.

According to organizers, conducting scenarios such as this allows evaluators to look at areas for improvements during controlled events. Organizers stress that exercises such as these help the installation prepare for real-world situations.

It is anticipated there will be a number of different scenarios. There will be base-wide engagement and personnel should anticipate disruptions to daily activities, such as building lockdowns, restrictions or evacuations. Activities may also result in traffic delays both entering and exiting the installation. Delays and disruptions to normal operations, including customer service functions, may occur both during and after normal duty hours.

Base officials have emphasized safety to all involved in the scenarios, and if any real-world emergency takes place, they will stop the exercise immediately. Wing Inspection Team members will be monitoring all events, and if any member of Team Hanscom sees an unsafe practice during the exercise, he or she should report it immediately to a WIT member, identifiable by blue vests. All WIT members have the ability to stop the exercise.

As a reminder, 911 should only be used for real-world emergencies. For questions or concerns prior to the exercise, base personnel should contact Hanscom’s Inspector General Office at 781-225-5530. Once the exercise has begun, contact the White Cell at 781-225-1300.
