HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Air Force will conduct a Continuous Process Improvement Senior Leader Course here July 8-9, the only such offering in the New England region this year.

The two-day course, intended for colonels, NH-04 Tier 2/GS-15s and chief master sergeants, will be held both days from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the Hanscom Conference Center’s Lexington Room.

Throughout the Air Force, CPI practitioners employ common business tools and techniques to reduce waste, cut costs, streamline processes and improve customer service. Course instructor Dr. Phillip Chansler, assistant professor of operations management with Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, will cover all the fundamental philosophies and methods used to achieve those goals and help develop a CPI mindset.

Overall, the curriculum will offer local leadership a chance to build upon CPI successes to date, apply a standardized process for identifying major process improvement opportunities in the future, and lead their organization to accomplish significant performance gains, according to Sam Doucette, Hanscom’s installation process manager.

To bring to life how mature organizations have successfully implemented Lean strategy deployment and a problem-solving culture, an industry visit – known as a Gemba Tour – to Raytheon Co. in Andover, Massachusetts, will take place during the afternoon of the first day.

“The tour will showcase areas where the company is currently applying these practices and principles,” Doucette said.

Senior leaders may register for the course until June 21 via the Hanscom CPI SharePoint site (be sure to choose “+ New Item”).
