HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Hanscom officials will host a Thanksgiving meal Nov. 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the chapel annex here for all those with base access.

The event is free and open to all military and civilian personnel and their families.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re TDY [temporary duty] in the local area, a retired service member living locally or already a member of Team Hanscom – everyone with base access is welcome to attend this community event,” said Chief Master Sgt. Henry Hayes, installation command chief.

Organizers are requesting donations of traditional Thanksgiving dishes as well as volunteers to help run the event. Those interested in providing food may sign up at https://perfectpotluck.com/meals.php?t=UWAL8157.

Anyone making a food donation may drop off on Wednesday, Nov 27 from 12 to 4:30 p.m. or on Thursday, Nov. 28 beginning at 8 a.m.

“While people are cooking their own Thanksgiving meals, hopefully they cook a little extra and bring it to the chapel on Thanksgiving Day,” said Staff Sgt. Robert Starr, co-organizer for the event.

Organizers need people to set up and decorate the chapel annex, help serve meals and clean up after.

Volunteers interested in helping should contact organizers at hanscomcommunitythanksgiving@gmail.com

Anyone interested in attending the dinner should RSVP to hanscomcommunitythanksgiving@gmail.com prior to Nov 25.

“For anyone on base that is required to work a shift on Thanksgiving, such as our Defenders, firefighters and Airmen assigned to the Command Post, please come by and enjoy a hot meal during your lunch break,” said Staff Sgt. Lauren Walker, co-organizer for the event.

Hanscom Primary and Middle School students will again provide decorations for the community dinner.

According to planners, all leftover food will go to a local homeless shelter.
