HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Air Force Materiel Command recently announced the winners of the 2019 AFMC Air Force Medical Service and Safety Awards.
The seven Hanscom recipients have claimed titles at the major command-level and will continue on to compete against their peers Air Force-wide.
“These award winners represent the great work our people do every day to ensure the readiness of Total Force Airmen at Hanscom,” said Col. Mark Oordt, 66th Medical Squadron commander.
Maj. Rochelle Hase, 66th MDS Aerospace and Operations Medical Flight commander, was named the Biomedical Specialist Officer of the Year. Hase supported over 900 service members while she oversaw joint operations with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
The title of Clinical Dentist of the Year was claimed by Maj. Ryan Gustafson, 66 MDS Dental Operations Flight commander. Gustafson increased the level of doctor and patient education regarding opioid risks and addiction.
Senior Airman Mayson Kile, 66 MDS Family Health technician, took the title of Aerospace Medicine Airman of the Year. Kile led Team Hanscom as the first joint medical service administrator and significantly cut the processing time of sister service profiles.
The Aerospace Medicine Noncommissioned Officer of the Year award was given to Tech. Sgt. Jonathan Southwell, 66 MDS NCO in charge of Medical Operations Flight. Southwell served as the Self Aid Buddy Care director and trained more than 600 service members through 2019.
Tech. Sgt. Lloydon Balili, 66 MDS NCOIC of Optometry, was named the Ophthalmic Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. Balili directed joint service operations and supported more than 200 marines while processing more than 750 optometry orders.
The Organizational Management Excellence Award was claimed by Senior Master Sgt. Rebecca Marrs, 66 MDS Medical Operations Flight superintendent. Marrs served as the interim squadron command chief, leading her team through three safety inspections resulting in near perfect ratings.
Additionally, Shaun Bassett, 66th Air Base Group Occupational Safety manager, was named the AFMC Safety Civilian Professional of the Year.
“Alongside each award winner is a team of colleagues supporting them,” said Oordt. “I’m so proud that so many members of our team have been recognized at the MAJCOM level and we look forward to seeing the results as they compete at the Air Force level.”
