JPPSO offers winter moving tips

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Joint Personal Property Shipping Office offers the following moving tips to help make a winter permanent change of station move a success.
All personnel moving during the winter season should be aware that snow and sleet might delay pickup and delivery of household goods.
Officials suggest scheduling an extra day or two between the pickup and departure date. Monitor the weather once the dates get closer and stay in contact with the assigned move coordinator.
JPPSO also encourages personnel to wait on disconnecting utilities until property is removed.
Other recommendations throughout the winter months include:
Ensure the driveway, walkways and steps are clear of snow and ice. Not having it removed may cause delays.
Ensure any outdoor items, such as play equipment or lawn furniture, are disassembled, and free of snow and ice.
Be flexible during transit time as there may be weather delays that cause property to arrive to the new assignment later than expected.
