HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Members of the Company Grade Officers Council recently prepared care packages to send to deployed service members during a Troop Care Drive Jan. 16.

The packages, addressed to Hanscom members serving overseas, each contain a number of smaller care packs for the member to share with their deployed units.

“We want our Hanscom members to know that we’re thinking of them, but also of the team they’re deployed with,” said 1st Lt. Evan Papp, a Kill Chain Integration Branch project manager and CGOC president.

The care packages contain nonperishable snacks, small toiletries, and table and card games; almost all were donated by off-base organizations.

“You don’t have to be an official organization to donate,” said 2nd Lt. Alexa Reed, Kill Chain Integration Branch systems engineer and CGOC volunteering chair. “We encourage everyone interested in sending something to our troops to reach out.”

The CGOC, comprised of officers ranked second lieutenant to captain from Hanscom and other units throughout New England, regularly hosts volunteering, mentorship and social events in the local area.

“We’re a committee of people interested in networking, bettering ourselves, the community and the base,” said Papp.

Currently, the Hanscom CGOC is reorganizing the council and looking for more members to develop goals and events for 2020.

“The program has so many opportunities to get involved on the installation, lead our peers and explore the area,” said Reed. “The CGOC is exactly what we want it to be, but we need the feedback from our members.”
