HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – April is Military Saves Month.
Previously known as Military Saves Week, the annual event has been expanded through the entire month to educate members on financial health and build toward financial goals.
“When we’re setting financial goals, it’s better to think big, but start small,” said Kathy Vaillancourt, Personal Financial Readiness program manager at the Airman & Family Readiness Center here. “We teach people how to save, set goals and how to reach them by developing financial tools, skills and habits.”
Resources are available to military members, dependents and federal civilians through www.militarysaves.org.
“Whether you want to buy a car, a home, or you want to start saving for your children’s education, there are tools to help build whatever goals you may have,” she said.
Because April is also Month of the Military Child, Vaillancourt and her team of financial counselors created a calendar of finance-oriented activities and games for families to do together while maintaining a healthy physical distance.
“We love to see parents and their children talking about money and financial goals they may all have,” said Vaillancourt. “Involving children in family finances from a young age can really set them up for financial success later on.”
Vaillancourt said resources are also available for personnel in need of reevaluating their financial health during the COVID-19 response period, and one-on-one financial counseling resources are also available over the phone.
Personnel can set up a session by emailing 66.fss.fsfr.cmb@us.af.mil.
