HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Hanscom Spouses Club virtually awarded scholarships to graduating high school seniors and military spouses during the 59th annual HSC Scholarship Awards June 3.
The HSC awarded a total of $40,000 to 13 high school graduates and two spouses, each of whom will pursue degrees in the fall.
Michelle Freeman, who will attend Northeastern University as a bioengineering major, received the Chief of Staff Award and $4,000 as the top academic achieving student.
Other students and spouses receiving scholarships include:
The Carmen Schipper Memorial Award, $3,000 – Emily Satterthwaite
The Lt. Gen. Melvin F. Chubb, Jr., Memorial Award, $2,500 – Helen Gillespy
The Daedalian Military Child Award, $2,500 – Caroline Flynn
The Col. Chuck Jones Memorial Award, $3,000 – Michael Pierce
The Brian Sweeney Memorial Award, $3,000 – Jessop Collins
Additional recipients were Delaney Hanna, Julia Noury, Michael Conde, Emily Runnette, Anaise Gaillard, John Pierce, Alexis Winn, Jacob Owens and Stephanie Hebert.
Since 1961, the HSC has offered scholarships to military dependent children and spouses to support graduating seniors and spouses of members from all branches of the armed forces.
The HSC raised more than $40,000 in scholarship funds this year from the Minuteman Thrift Shop, corporate donors and benefactors. Without these contributions and the scholarship committee, officials say the HSC scholarship program would not be possible.
