HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Base officials will host the annual tree lighting ceremony Dec. 3 at 4:20 p.m.

This year’s ceremony will be held virtually and will stream live via Hanscom’s Facebook page outside Building 1530, Outdoor Recreation. The tree lighting will follow a parade through base housing beginning at 3:20 p.m.

“We wanted to share our love for the holidays with the community, especially this year,” said Airman 1st Class Everly Wilkes, Hanscom Dorm Council president and coordinator for the event.

Six council members have taken the lead on coordinating the base event, including the parade through housing, which Wilkes said will feature familiar holiday characters and pre-wrapped goodies.

“We’re going to be handing out hot cocoa packets, cookie- and ornament-decorating kits to kids at the parade, all pre-bagged in accordance with COVID-19 safety measures,” said Wilkes.

Facial coverings and physical distancing will be required for all participants at the parade.

Wilkes said there will also be a surprise guest character at the tree lighting viewers won’t want to miss during the live stream.

“We’re hoping everyone will join in to the parade and view the ceremony so we can celebrate the holiday spirit with our Air Force family,” said Wilkes.

The inclement weather date for the event is Dec. 7.
