HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Commander Lt. Gen. Shaun Morris recently updated a memorandum that directs Airmen to wear any combination of the blue service uniform on the first Monday of every month.

If the first Monday of the month is a non-duty day, the wear of the blue service uniform will be the following Monday.

For the remainder of the month, Airmen will wear the appropriate uniform to perform their military duties, which largely includes the operational camouflage pattern.

“As Airmen, it’s important we take pride in all of our service uniforms,” said Chief Master Sgt. William Hebb, installation command chief. “The way we present ourselves by proudly wearing our uniforms, whether it’s our blues or OCP uniforms, is a direct reflection of our professionalism.”

According to the memo published July 26, blue service uniforms may be appropriate at temporary duty locations in public settings or contractor facilities to project a professional image.  If the TDY requirements deem OCPs or flight suits necessary, Airmen should use their best judgement.

Any alternate uniform of the day or exceptions to policy due to mission requirements must be approved by the member’s chain of command.

Airmen TDY to other military units or locations should adhere to that location’s UOD policy.

“The Air Force emphasizes a ‘neat, clean, and professional image,’” Morris emphasized in the memo. “Doing so greatly enhances the esprit de corps and instills public confidence in our Airmen and Air Force.”
