HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Commissary meat department manager here is committed to providing the best customer service to those who have earned the quality-of-life benefit.

Jeff Donaldson, who has been at the Commissary since 1989, understands the importance of providing high-quality products to those who use the Hanscom AFB store.

“The patrons who shop here have earned this benefit, and we want to take care of them to the highest level and ensure they’re satisfied,” Donaldson said. “Their service to our nation is not lost on me.”

The Defense Commissary Agency mission is to be the grocery provider of choice for eligible patrons – delivering a benefit that provides grocery items at a savings while enhancing quality of life and readiness for our military community and their families, according to the DECA website.

“Mr. Donaldson is customer service oriented and his dedication is unmatched when it comes to serving the community,” said Chris Palmer, Hanscom Commissary Assistant Commissary Officer.

Jeff Donaldson uses social networking sites to reach shoppers in the base community.

“If we have specials, I’ll go on Hanscom-connected social media pages and promote it,” he said.

He added that he also uses the platforms to keep tabs on comments, address complaints or concerns and provide solutions.

“I want to ensure our customers are 100 percent satisfied every day,” he said. “That’s my goal.”

The meat department manager attributes his work ethic and commitment to the customer to his father who never missed a day of work.

“I always felt if I’m healthy and able to go to work, I should,” said Donaldson. “I take a lot of pride in my craft and always want to be the best I can.”

Donaldson leads a five-person crew. The team is responsible for a full range of meat-cutting tasks to provide ready-to-eat cuts for shoppers.

“My team has high standards when it comes to continually providing patrons the best product,” he said.

The department manager began in the meat-cutting industry in 1985. He has been the manager of his department here since 2002.

The Commissary is open to authorized patrons as defined by the Department of Defense Commissary Program. Patrons include active duty service members, Guard and Reserve members, military retirees, Medal of Honor recipients, disabled veterans and their authorized family members.

The Hanscom-based Commissary recently expanded hours by opening on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with limited operations for eligible patrons. The store had previously been closed on Mondays.
