HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE -- Members of Team Hanscom and their families can join the town of Bedford Sept. 17 in celebrating the 293rd anniversary of the town’s incorporation.
The Bedford Day festivities begin with a road race starting at 8:30 a.m. from the John Glenn Middle School. The race route includes McMahon, Concord, and Davis Roads, and the side roads in Davis Loop.
In addition, the annual Bedford Day Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Town Hall complex, 10 Mudge Way. The fair includes dozens of booths with food, activities, and entertainment for all ages.
Bedford Day also features a parade beginning at 10:30 a.m. The parade proceeds north on The Great Road from Loomis Street and disperses at Mudge Way. Parade participants include Bedford town officials and personnel from local organizations, as well as Hanscom representatives Lt. Col. Richard Baysinger, installation deputy commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Alan Weary, installation command chief.
"Bedford Day is a special day for the town and for Hanscom, because it is a time to gather and reconnect,” said Baysinger. “It is about the community, of which Hanscom is an integral part.”
The Great Road from Loomis to North and Concord Roads will be closed for the parade from 9:30 a.m. until noon, and no traffic or parking is allowed on Mudge Way for the duration of the fair. Traffic will be detoured around the entire area during the parade. The overnight parking ban on The Great Road will be extended until after the end of the parade.
There also will be fireworks at 7:30 p.m. with the main viewing area between Bedford High School and town center. Railroad Ave. and McMahon Road will be closed before and during the fireworks
"Bedford is enriched by shared experiences with Team Hanscom in our schools, recreation programs, and in daily activities in the town,” said Sarah Stanton, Bedford town manager. “We appreciate our connection to our Hanscom neighbors, and we look forward to celebrating this shared community on Bedford’s 293rd anniversary.”
