HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Several members of the Catholic community were on hand as Monsignor William Cuddy, Jr., delivered his final Mass here Sept. 15.

Cuddy has been serving the Hanscom Catholic community since 2013.

“Monsignor Cuddy has truly been instrumental in caring for our service members, civilians and their families as he has journeyed with them in both the highs and lows in their lives,” said Chaplain (Capt.) Kimberly Hall, installation chaplain. “We are so incredibly thankful for his ministerial gifts and for leading the way as a good shepherd.”

Cuddy is an ordained Catholic Priest and originally from Boston.

“The tremendous love he has poured into our very own Catholic community these past nine years has reaped beautiful rewards that will continue to bear fruit,” said Hall.

Parishioners recognized Cuddy for his dedication and loyalty to the military community following the Mass.

“His 43 years of experience as a priest and his military background provided a unique ability to connect with all members of the Catholic community, whether active duty, retired or civilian,” said Virginia Smith, a Hanscom Chapel parishioner.

Cuddy will return to the Boston Archdiocese, according to Hall.

“He understands the unique lifestyle military members lead,” said Smith. “His friendship and spiritual guidance will be missed.

Flowers will be placed at the grave of Cuddy’s mother in recognition of his longtime service at Hanscom AFB.

The Hanscom Chapel offers several programs, including worship, liturgy, sacramental rites, religious education and a variety of lay organizations.
