HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass., -- The installation commander has directed a staggered release of non-essential personnel as a result of a significant power outage at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, Sept. 22.

Civil engineers are working to resolve the outage that is isolated to the installation. No timetable has been given when power will be restored.

Officials are working to provide alternate power to Hanscom family housing and other facilities on the installation.

Lincoln School District officials have closed the Hanscom Primary and Middle Schools.

The following release schedule and zones is as follows:

Zone One -- Employees who live more than 30 miles from Hanscom: immediate release at 12:15 p.m.

Zone Two -- Employees who live within 15 to 30 miles of Hanscom: release 1/2 hour after Zone One at 12:45 p.m.

Zone Three -- Employees living within 15 miles of Hanscom: release one hour after Zone One at 1:15 p.m.

According to base officials, the staggered release plan is not intended to preclude an employee's right to request and be granted approved absence, such as annual leave. Supervisors are encouraged to grant leave liberally.

Units should implement their COOP plans and officials encourage supervisors to maximize teleworking.

Updates will be provided when information becomes available.
