The Hanscom Spouses Club hosted nearly 100 people at the Minuteman Commons to recognize 19 graduating seniors at the 52nd Annual HSC Scholarship Awards Night May 15.

HSC officers awarded $44,500 in scholarships to graduates whose transcripts show mostly As and Bs, most of whom have attained honors in various subjects, and many who will major in technically-challenging disciplines in the top colleges and universities.

The top academically achieving student is awarded The Chief of Staff Award of $5,000. This year's recipient is Erika Hill, who will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall.

Other students were awarded special scholarships named in memory of those who were special to the Hanscom Community. Winners of those scholarships included:

Halie LeSavage, Harvard College, $4,500 - The Colonel Chuck Jones Memorial Award
Karlie Kobylarz, Stony Brook, $4,500 - The Brian D. Sweeney Memorial Award
William Cook III, Air Force Academy, $3,500 - The Lieutenant General Chubb Award
Megan Cullinane, Temple University, $3,000 - The Band of Liberty Award
Kirsten Traynor, Holy Cross, $1,000 - The Jeanne M. Richter Memorial Award

Other students awarded scholarships were:

Seniors: Lindsey McBride (Penn State), Mary Lipscomb (Tufts University), Andrew Matos (West Point), Bridget Handy (St. Anselm College), Jonathan Kline (Florida State University), Zachary McIllece (Brigham Young University), Rachel Conlon (University of Connecticut), Katlyn Knorreck (Baylor University), Nicholas Heitsch (University of Rochester), Emily Doucet (University of Connecticut), John Galluchi (Harvard College), Kelsey DeJesus-Banos (MIT) and Samantha Robertson (University of Massachusetts - Lowell).

The HSC raised $44,500 this year from many corporate donors and benefactors. Without these contributions, and the work by HSC members at the Thrift Shop, auction and scholarship committee, the HSC scholarship program would not be possible.

Listening to the biographies of each student awarded a scholarship is said by all to be the inspiration for the hard work done by the committee and proof that our kids are succeeding.
