The Hanscom Environmental Office will host a Transportation Information Fair May 6 through 10 for base personnel interested in carpooling, riding transit or looking for other ways to reduce transportation cost.

Events are scheduled at the following locations: Base Exchange, Massachusetts National Guard Joint Force Headquarters, Hanscom Fitness and Sports Center, 66th Medical Squadron, Building 1305, Building 1614 and Building 1810 throughout the week.

"The Air Force goal is to reduce single occupant vehicle use," said Robert Spelfogel, 66th Air Base Group environmental engineer. "Fewer cars on the road mean less smog, better health, reduced energy consumption and saves money during difficult times."

MassRIDES will be available to answer questions, display maps of commuter zip codes and sign employees up for the Emergency Ride Home program and NuRide, a matching and green trips reward system.

MassRIDES, the state's travel option program, provides transportation options to employees traveling to and from Hanscom Air Force Base and nearby companies.

Another program available to Hanscom personnel is the Transportation Incentive Program. This program is for military and Department of Defense federal employees which provide financial incentives to encourage commuting by public transportation and qualified van pools.

The Nashua to Hanscom van pool shuttle operates Monday through Friday. Four vans depart Nashua beginning at 6 a.m. and depart Hanscom beginning at 4 p.m.

Military members on temporary assignment that take public transportation to Boston area colleges may use this program as well.
