Hanscom, along with the rest of the Department of Defense, is faced with the potential furlough of civilian appropriated fund employees for 22 discontinuous days beginning April 25 through the pay period ending Sept. 21.

Furloughs place employees in a temporary non-duty, non-pay status. Employees are not paid and may not perform work during this time. In the event of a furlough, all civilian appropriated fund employees will be affected, with exceptions being made only for the minimum number of personnel needed to provide safety or to protect life or property. Hanscom has been approved for very few exceptions.

Information published by the Office of Personnel Management has been placed on HanscomNet and can be accessed by clicking on "Civilian Workforce Information." Additional questions may be sent to 66.FSS.Personnel.Info@hanscom.af.mil, and the answers will also be posted on the "Civilian Workforce Information" link for all personnel to view.

Detailed information regarding the installation's plan for furlough schedules will be provided to employees as soon as possible. Hanscom officials are also in the process of scheduling town hall meetings.

"Hanscom leadership is working diligently toward providing information on furlough as it relates to the Hanscom civilian population," said Col. Lester A. Weilacher, 66th Air Base Group commander. "The civilian workforce is a strong asset to the Hanscom mission. Without a doubt, we could not have the successful mission we do without their efforts."

Leadership is dedicated to ensuring civilian employees will be provided clear information in advance of any decision to furlough, officials said.
