DBIDS coming later this month Published Jan. 23, 2013 66th Security Forces Squadron HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The base will begin using the Defense Biometric Identification System, or DBIDS, in late January 2013. Instead of relying solely on visual inspections, security forces sentries will use handheld scanners to electronically verify ID cards. The scanners are connected to the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, commonly referred to as DEERS. SFS officials say DBIDS enhances the military law enforcement mission by helping to provide a safe and secure community and by allowing real-time access to data. The program alerts registration personnel and installation entry controllers on who is authorized to enter Hanscom. DBIDS also is able to view individuals who are barred across jurisdictional boundaries and eliminates duplication of data. Retirees who had their ID issued prior to 2003 must go to a military personnel section in order to receive a new ID card. All individuals who have a military ID, dependent ID, government or civilian issued Common Access Card issued by a military personnel section after 2003 and enrolled in DEERS are automatically pre-registered in DBIDS and there is no further action required. Individuals who do not possess any of the above credentials will be required to be issued a DBIDS card. Individuals needing a DBIDS card may visit either the pass and identification section in Building 1305 or the reports and analysis section in Building 1725 starting Feb. 15. The process for individuals sponsoring visitors to Hanscom will not change from its current state. Once DBIDS is in place, personnel and residents should be prepared for a slight delay entering the base. Contact Master Sgt. Shon Teicheira at 781-225-5614 or Tech. Sgt. Don San Juan at 781-225-5613 with any questions regarding DBIDS or the registration process.
