Information overload: many resources available to help personnel connect with community Published Dec. 5, 2012 By Sarah Olaciregui 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- As more and more people turn to the Internet to obtain news and information, where to go or what to look for to obtain that information may seem daunting. Several resources are available at Hanscom to help the community connect. In addition to providing content for the Hansconian, the 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs office manages Hanscom's public website at www.hanscom.af.mil. Most of the articles seen in the weekly newspaper are also posted to the site, along with links to related articles, additional photos, videos and more. Besides the public website, the base community may find valuable information on the 66th Force Support Squadron's website, www.HanscomServices.com. The squadron manages many of the facilities, as well as activities and events on base, such as Outdoor Recreation, the Minuteman Commons, Tickets and Tours, the base pool and more. A listing of upcoming events and activities can be found on their online calendar at www.HanscomServices.com/calendar/calendar.asp. As more and more people dive into social media sites, many organizations on base are creating their own social media pages to communicate directly to their customers. For example, the Airman and Family Readiness Center lists many of their workshops and posts photos from some of their events via Facebook. The Youth Center communicates via Facebook and Twitter to youth across the base. The official Hanscom Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/HanscomAirForceBase. This page, managed by the Public Affairs office, provides links to many of the articles found each week in the Hansconian, a link to the Patriot of the Week, reminders about upcoming events, a weekly photo contest and is one of the first places to find information about snow closings and delays. In addition to Facebook, the PA office provides content for a Twitter feed at twitter.com/Hanscom_AFB and a YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/hanscompublicaffairs. Many of the videos found on the public website can also be viewed on the YouTube channel, plus bonus coverage of some activities and events are included, too. An application for mobile phones is available now, as well. The app, called My Military Communities, provides event information for many organizations across the base, such as the A&FRC, clinic, school liaison office and more. To download it, search for "MyMC2" through either the Android Market or Apple's App Store. A complete listing of various base social media pages may be found on the public website at www.hanscom.af.mil/socialmedia/index.asp.
