Operation Best Wishes lands at Hanscom; Credit union offers opportunity for military families to connect with video greeting Published Nov. 15, 2012 HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Staying connected during the holidays can help bridge the distance for military members and their loved ones. Whether deployed overseas or unable to leave their duty station to be home for the holidays, it is important to reach out to those who serve. On Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. 7 p.m., Hanscom families, co-workers and friends will get a chance to send a professionally produced video greeting card to a loved one. Hanscom Federal Credit Union will sponsor this free event produced by Operation Best Wishes. Operation Best Wishes is a national organization sponsored by military credit unions. Using a professional quality mobile studio set up at the credit union's main office at 1610 Eglin St., Hanscom families and individuals can record a message of love and support up to ten minutes long. The recipient can access the video using a password at Operation Best Wishes' website or by viewing a CD. Operation Best Wishes is a free service lead by the Defense Credit Union Council and supported by military-affiliated credit unions. Hanscom is the only New England stop on this year's tour. During the visit, creativity is encouraged. Children can arrive in dance costumes, sports and cheerleading uniforms, show off karate moves and prepare songs, poems and posters. Unlike a typical voice or video call, this greeting will be professionally recorded and will be presented as a special message with a customized background. The military member can then view the archived video at any time through the Operation Best Wishes website. A CD of the recording is also given to each family, in case the recipient does not have internet access, or so they can share the recording with family and friends. Reservations are currently available by visiting www.operationbestwishes.com or by calling HFCU at 800-656-4328.
