A base team has earned recognition for all their hard work and dedication to the community. The Hanscom Housing Installation Team has been chosen as the Air Force Materiel Command winner for the Professional Housing Management Association Outstanding Installation-Privatized Location team award for 2012.

"The team has made enormous progress in making Hanscom Family Housing a vibrant and thriving community," said Tom Schluckebier, base civil engineer. "Due to the superb partnership and management, the 732 unit community is now at 98 percent occupancy and has become the military community of choice for Hanscom Airmen and sister service families throughout the Boston area."

The housing team completed the process of constructing 93 million dollars worth of improvements, including 250 new units and 353 renovations. They also implemented a system of contacting potential tenants via base welcome packages that resulted in 340 new leases.

Their dedication to the Hanscom residents is also evident in the activities that are planned throughout the year for the community to attend. The events include a chili cook-off, breakfast burritos and an ice cream social that was attended by more than 250 people. They also organize programs and show support through give-a-ways with the Deployed Spouses Program, Toys for Tots and Yard of the Month.

According to the award package, the team initiated an all-inclusive landscaping and grounds maintenance program, which resulted in free grass cutting for all residents. They also continued to put money back into the community by redirecting $162,000 in savings to community enhancements, such as a playground, mail kiosks and a pavilion.

"Day in and day out this team works hard for the housing community," Schluckebier said. "I'm excited they were chosen as winners for AFMC and I'm looking forward to their continued success at the Air Force level and within our Hanscom community."
