Each September, a special day is chosen to celebrate kids. This year, the Boys and Girls Club Day for Kids is Sept. 15 and the people of Hanscom will not have to venture far to participate. Families are invited to Castle Park from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. to partake in the day's festivities.

According to the website, www.dayforkids.org, the Boys and Girls Club Day for Kids is a time to celebrate and honor America's children by spending meaningful time with them.

"Active play is a fundamental part of building a child's cognitive, physical, social and emotional well-being," said Ann-Marie Ely, Youth Sports and Fitness director.

Events include a Child ID program, a watermelon seed spitting contest, face painting, a bouncy castle, a burger burn and a dunk tank.

There will also be a FitFamily portion, called Bike Round Up, that features bike safety and a helmet and tire check.

The BGCD website charges each parent to make a commitment to connect with the young person in their life and spend meaningful time together engaging in active play. It also mentions that when families have fun playing together, memories will be created that will last a lifetime.
