The town of Bedford invites the Hanscom community to join them on Sept. 15 in celebration of the 283rd anniversary of its incorporation.

As part of the Bedford Day celebration, the First Church of Christ Congregational at 25 Great Rd. is hosting a pancake breakfast, free to military families and veterans. The breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. and concludes just before the parade begins.

The general public is also welcome to enjoy breakfast, with proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project. The suggested donation is $3 per adult or $10 per family. For more information, contact Rick Burke at rickburkejr@gmail.com or call 781-275-7951.

After the breakfast, the parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and proceeds up The Great Road from Loomis Street toward Bedford High School on Mudge Way.

With marching bands, local groups and organizations, parade organizers promise to turn The Great Road into a sea of color and excitement.

Following the parade, the annual Bedford Day Fair will be held until 3 p.m. at the Town Hall complex. It will feature Caribbean rock performed by the Cocabanana Band, with tropical lyrics, steel drums and a variety of Latin rhythms.

Other activities taking place that day include free health screenings and the annual Bedford Arts and Crafts Society's 13th annual regional art exhibit. There will be two showings: Sept. 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sept. 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those interested in competing in the art exhibit should visit the Town Center Building, the Bedford Town Hall or the Bedford Public Library for further information.

In addition, the Danny Oates Memorial 5K road Race and 2.5K fitness walk will take place as part of festival activities. For further information, visit www.dannyoates5k.com.

Organizers recommend attendees avoid the limited parking by riding a bike or walking to the event. The bicycle advisory committee will provide free and secure on-site bike parking.
