66th Security Forces Squadron to host annual Police Week festivities

The 66th Security Forces Squadron will host Hanscom's annual Police Week May 14 through 18.

The week begins with an opening ceremony Monday, May 14, at the former Air Force Research Lab Building 1103. This event starts at 9 a.m. with Investigator Elias Mussalum as the emcee for the morning, Staff Sgt. Richard Crotty leading the Security Forces prayer and Lt. Col. Derrick Weyand, 66 SFS commander, as the guest speaker.

Members of the community can also participate in a 5K run or walk after the opening ceremony. It will start at Gate 2 and continue throughout Minute Man National Historical Park. The 5K will end at approximately at 11 a.m. Participants can pre-register by calling the Senior Airman Brandee Hahn at 781-225-5633. Those interested may also register on the day of the 5K. Parking for participants will be at Building 1103. A 66 SFS coin and law enforcement pocket knife will be awarded to the top three runners.

On Tuesday, May 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Security Forces will be at the Base Exchange parking lot conducting an equipment display, along with fingerprinting cards for kids, a ride in the sky watch tower and a newly remodeled "Jail and Bail." The community is invited to come out and get hands on with the equipment used by Security Forces members on a day-to-day basis.

At 3 p.m., there will be a retreat ceremony at the POW/MIA memorial area, accompanied by the honor guard and featuring the Middlesex County Sheriff as the guest speaker. Contact Tech. Sgt. Wayne Griggs at 781-845-5620 with any questions.

On Wednesday, May 16, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Hanscom's Military Working Dog section will showcase their abilities at the softball field by the Hanscom Primary and Middle schools. Contact Staff Sgt. Richard Crotty at 781-225-6593 for further information.

On Thursday, May 17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Security Forces is sponsoring a four-person Combat Golf Tournament. The registration will begin promptly at 8 a.m. and a ceremony will follow at 8:30 a.m. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. The cost is $65 per person, which includes 18 hole green fees, carts and burgers and brats for lunch. This event will take place at the Patriot Golf Course located at 200 Springs Rd. Bedford, MA 01730, adjacent to the VA Hospital. Finally, on Friday, May 18, a charity barbecue will begin at 3 p.m. It will take place at the Security Forces Squadron Building 1725. A $10 donation is requested per person.
