On May 3 at 2 p.m. the Community College of the Air Force graduation ceremony will take place at the Hanscom Conference Center.

For this 2012 spring graduation, 78 enlisted members completed the requirements for an associate's degree through CCAF. Nearly 25 Airmen will participate in the graduation ceremony.

The philosophy of the Community College of the Air Force is that the United States Air Force requires well-trained, educated and professional noncommissioned officers prepared to meet current and future leadership, managerial and technological challenges of an increasingly sophisticated, complex and expeditionary Air Force. Officials believe personal and professional growth through collegiate programs is essential and beneficial to the Air Force mission, enlisted force development and the nation.

Leaders say that obtaining a CCAF degree is the first step on the ladder to personal and professional success. CCAF is a federally charted two-year accredited degree granting institution exclusively for enlisted Airmen. Credit is earned through a combination of military training and general education college courses. Airmen are encouraged to discuss higher education options and career advancement opportunities with their supervisor, mentor and the base's Education and Training Center guidance counselor.

"This is the Year of Continuing Education," said Debbie Billings, Education and Training Center director. "YoCE is the second phase of an AFMC (Air Force Materiel Command) initiative to encourage participation in academic programs leading to degree completion. The goal of YoCE is to continue the emphasis on earning the CCAF degree, while encouraging the completion of an advanced degree or professional certification for all AFMC Airmen."
