Responding to a growing sentiment from the base community to offer an online venue to advertise local yard sale announcements or to sell items in an online forum, base personnel can now use www.hanscom.baseforsale.com for that and more.

2nd Lt. Brandon Paquette discovered and contacted the owner of baseforsale.com to add Hanscom to the growing list of sub-domains of military installations around the country.

"It's a bulletin board-style website that base members can buy or sell items or services that other base members may be interested in," said Paquette. "Whether you need a babysitter, a lawnmower or a pair of shoes, our goal is if it's available in the Hanscom community, you'll be able to find it on the website."

Developed in 2006 by a former member of the Air Force, baseforsale.com has grown to more than 25 total bases operating local sites.

For anyone who has been through a PCS move, climate or weight restrictions may make it difficult or unnecessary to take some belongings to the next assignment.

"With buying and selling that so often accompanies a military PCS, hanscomforsale.com is a convenient solution for those that want to avoid the uncertainty, complexity and risk associated with other online market places," said Paquette. "There's also a section for free stuff for those who simply want to pass on a belonging to someone who might need it."

To sell items or advertise a community event, those interested may create a user account by developing a username and submitting an email address. A password will be emailed to the user in order to begin using the site.
