Car buying class offered at night Published Feb. 1, 2012 By Mark Wyatt 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Should I buy a new car? Should I buy a used car? Should I lease a car? Do I really need the extended warranty? What about a loan; should I get it from the dealership or from my bank or credit union? These questions and more are discussed during a free car buying workshop presented by the Massachusetts Consumers' Coalition at the Airman and Family Readiness Center on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. for base personnel. The workshop is offered as a result of recommendations from the 2011 Air Force Caring for People Forum in May, and then more recently during the Single Airmen focus groups, said Kathleen Vaillancourt, a community readiness consultant at the A&FRC. The car buying class is open to all service members as well as any Department of Defense civilian personnel. "We hope we are meeting the needs of those who asked for evening financial readiness classes," said Vaillancourt. "If it goes well, we will continue to offer evening classes to base personnel." Car buying is where people make their worst financial decisions, according to Vaillancourt. This class will help people learn how to better prepare for making that large purchase and maybe save money. To register for the car buying workshop, call the Airman and Family Readiness center at 781-225-2765 or email 66.fss.fsfr.cmb@hanscom.af.mil.
