Jennifer Foster 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Hanscom dental clinic, as well as eight individuals from the 66th Medical Squadron, racked up honors from the Air Force Materiel Command Medical Service Awards. The Air Force Medical Service Awards program encompasses 81 individual and team awards. The awards recognize outstanding actions, initiatives, superior job performance, innovative operations and exceptional teamwork while improving the delivery of health care at home as well as the ability to support joint medical operations through deployment. Although the competition was tough, Hanscom proved to have some of the best personnel in AFMC. Col. Frank Glenn, 66th Medical Squadron commander, explained how proud he was of his medical team. "I am truly honored to be able to serve with such fantastic medical professionals," he said. "These extraordinary people take great pride in doing common things uncommonly well." 66th MDS Dental Flight, Small Dental Clinic of the Year For the fourth year in a row, the dental clinic received a 100 percent satisfaction rating and achieved a highly distinctive lab average of 4.9 out of 5.0 for their quality assurance rating. The flight leadership is recognized for mentoring through example and for concentrating on an efficient and cohesive team approach to Air Force dentistry. Capt. Brooke Van Eeghen, USAF Biomedical Specialist Category I Officer of the Year - CGO As officer in charge of the pharmacy, Van Eeghen was recognized for being a superb officer with top-notch job performance and contributions to the Air Force medical mission. She guided the Air Force high dollar programs, saving the clinic $360,000 annually. Her management of 875 line items and 70 national contracts cut costs 33 percent. Senior Airman Richard L. Riley, Outstanding Base Bioenvironmental Engineering Airman of the Year Riley revitalized a shop survey process by developing a monitoring plan for 33 sites and protected 200 personnel by leading a HAZMAT analysis. Riley also looked out for others by coordinating Tony Horton P90X visits for Hanscom personnel, inspiring 370 members to bolster their physical fitness. Staff Sgt. Jaime M. Red, Outstanding Air Force Diagnostic Imaging NCO of the Year Red led 23 instructors, supporting 800 Joint Force members as the Basic Life Support director and oversaw 1100 X-rays and $606,000 operational assets. She also completed 144 clinic hours of CAT scan training and attended off-duty education, earning college credits toward a nursing management degree. Airman 1st Class Dennis A. Cooke Jr., Outstanding Mental Health Airman of the year Cooke managed four mental health programs, supporting 1,500 patients and was the sole neuropsych assessment proctor in a seven state radius for screening members for existing brain injuries. During the year he earned an Emergency Medical Technician certificate, his Community College of the Air Force degree, 12 credit hours toward his psychology degree and ran the Air Force marathon. Senior Airman Michael C. Trala, Outstanding Enlisted Health Services Management Airman of the year Trala was the driving force in a cervical cancer screening event, which resulted in a 95 percent service delivery assessment and being named number one in AFMC. Trala also created a medication reconciliation program to rectify data lapses and revamped the medical affirmative claims and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) form collection program. Lt. Col. Artemio C. Chapa, Chief of the Medical Staff Commitment to Excellence Award Chapa won the award for his sustained, superior performance and significant contribution to the mentorship of his medical providers. While deployed, he masterminded the minor traumatic brain injury program at Joint Base Balad by leading the training and implementation and assuring optimum troop protection and appropriate return to duty. Chapa was the Iraq public health medical ambassador and his unique and sustainable resolutions saved the commander's emergency response program $575,000. Capt. Elizabeth A. Norris, USAF Clinical Excellence in Nursing Award Norris exemplified nursing care in all categories, whether managing combat mass casualties, expertly triaging trauma patients or designing pediatric walkers. She also achieved irrefutable and sustainable results while orchestrating care for 400 ROTC cadets in seven states and revamping the flight business processes. Kathryne E. Friess, Outstanding Civilian of the Year Friess was recognized for outstanding performance among civilian employees who function in health services management. She was selected because of her high level of customer satisfaction, quality of care, team training and patient training. She's also an active member of Meals on Wheels, a Girl Scout Daisy leader and mentored 26 high school students, highlighting Air Force careers during Clinics Career Day.
