Education grants available from AFAS Published Dec. 8, 2011 By Dan Mazzuca Airman and Family Readiness Center HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- An opportunity for a college-bound child or spouse to receive a $2,000 education grant is now available. Last year, 12 children and spouses of Hanscom active duty members received grants, and Air Force-wide recipients received more than $5.2 million from the Air Force Aid Society. Applications are being accepted for the General Henry H. (Hap) Arnold Education Grant Program for the 2012-2013 school year. Eligible spouses and children wishing to apply must do so online at www.afas.org. The application deadline is March 9, 2012, with recipient announcements expected in June. The General Henry H. (Hap) Arnold Education Grant Program provides $2,000 grants to children of: active duty, Title 10 AGR/Reserve, Title 32 AGR performing full-time active duty, retired, retired reserve and deceased Air Force members; stateside spouses of active duty members and Title 10 AGR/Reservists; and surviving spouses of deceased personnel for their undergraduate studies. This grant program is based on financial need, however, family income and education costs are considered. The Hap Arnold Education Grant Program is administered by ACT Scholarship and Recognition Services. ACT is an independent, not-for-profit organization with nearly 50 years experience in providing support services to scholarship sponsors.
