Hanscom’s littlest members dress up for Trunk or Treat Published Oct. 27, 2011 By Peter Hofmann Contributing Writer HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Hanscom Chapel hosted its "Trunk or Treat" event along with a Fall Festival Oct. 23. The youngest members of the Hanscom community and their families were invited to enjoy activities and experience the best parts of Halloween -- dressing up in costumes and receiving candy -- in a safe environment. More than 35 volunteers, under the supervision of Krista Madden, Protestant coordinator, came together to make this event successful for the second year in a row. "Last year was the first time we offered the Trunk or Treating and more than 200 people came and loved it," Ms. Madden said. "This year we added a costume contest for families and offered other activities such as face painting, a bouncy house and apple bobbing." Maj. Abdiel Peart, from the C2ISR Directorate, and his family won the family costume contest and were very happy with the entire event. "Although my wife made me dress up, my family and I had a lot of fun." Major Peart said. "The Trunk or Treating was very well organized and events like these help to bring together people from all over Hanscom." Chaplain (Capt.) Michael Gorton, who co-organized the event, offered another take on the activities. "The Trunk or Treat event is not only held to send the kids home all sugared up," he said, "but also to promote the different services for people of different faiths that our chapel offers." He added that the event was an alternative for the smallest members of the community to the regular Trick or Treating, which will be held on Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. in base housing area.
