Still time to tee it up

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. --  With the Fourth of July holiday officially over, there are only a few more months for New England golfers to break out their bags and hit the links while the weather is warm. Fortunately for all base personnel, Hanscom's Patriot Golf Course is offering plenty of summer specials and deals for 2011.

The regulation size nine-hole course, located approximately four miles from Hanscom on the grounds of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bedford, comes complete with a driving range, practice putting and chipping greens, a full-service pro shop and snack bar.

"It's a really beautiful course with very affordable prices," said Nicole Craver, Outdoor Recreation director and the golf course's acting manager. "The course is extremely well-maintained. We have a veteran staff that has been working here quite a while. They really know the ins and outs of the course."

In addition, the golf course offers clinics for both children and adults looking to learn or fine-tune their golf game. There are still clinics with space available for the remainder of the summer months.

One of the course's most popular summer deals is their Twilight Golf Special, which allows players to hit the links at half price every Friday after 4 p.m.

The course boasts a very large "Tourney Tent" on the grounds for parties, special dinners, reunions and more. Personnel can book their own outings and tournaments through the pro shop.

"The tent we have here is great for functions and get-togethers and we generally have a lot of availability," said Ms. Craver. "We're always looking to have more people take advantage of our services."

There will also be a free ball fitting clinic at the course on Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The clinic is designed to help players find which type of ball is right for them.

"The Bridgestone ball-fitting is going to be a really great event," Ms. Craver said. "It will really help golfers gain an advantage in their game, and it's free. How can you beat that?"
