SFS to host annual 'Police Week' festivities

The 66th Security Forces Squadron will hold Hanscom's annual Police Week May 9 through 13.

The opening ceremony for Police Week activities will be on Monday at the 66th Security Forces building, Building 1725. Members of the community are invited come out and participate in a 5K run or walk.

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends approximately at 10 a.m. Participants can pre-register by calling Senior Airman Aniza Figueroa at 781-377-4899 or 781-377-0242. Those interested may also register on the day of the 5K run. Parking for participants will be in the Base Exchange parking lot. A free t-shirt will be awarded to the top three runners and those that donate $10 will receive a Hanscom Police Week T-shirt while supplies last.

On Tuesday from 11 a.m. till 12:30 p.m., security forces will be conducting an equipment display at the Base Exchange parking lot, along with fingerprinting cards for kids. Attendees will be able to see and touch the equipment security forces members use day to day. For further information, contact Staff Sgt. Michael Mandello at 781-377-0955.

On Wednesday from 2 p.m. till 3:30 p.m., Hanscom's Military Working Dog section will showcase their abilities at the softball field by the Primary and Middle School and the Combat Arms section will have equipment and weapons on display. On Thursday from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. Security Forces will sponsor a four-person "best ball" golf tournament. The registration will begin promptly at 8 a.m. and the ceremony will follow at 8:30 a.m. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. and the cost is $60 per person, which includes 18 hole green fees, carts and a box lunch. The event will take place at the Patriot Golf Course, located at 200 Springs Rd. in Bedford, next to the VA Hospital. For further information about the golf tournament, contact Tech. Sgt. An executive rifle match hosted by 66th Security Forces Squadron Combat Arms Training will be held on May 13 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The match will consist of a two-person team and the course of fire will be 40 rounds of ammo at varying degrees of difficulty. The match is open to all pay grades E-7 and above, O-1 and above and civilian equivalents. Contact Timothy Crincic at 781-377-1242 to take part in this event.

On Friday, a charity barbecue will begin at 3 p.m. It will take place at the Security Force Squadron building, Building 1725. The cost is $10 per person and will include pulled pork, brats, chips, cole slaw and a choice of cold beverages.
