Campaign promotes healthy financial habits

The Airman and Family Readiness Center staff is partnering with Youth Programs and the Hanscom Federal Credit Union to bring free financial information to the base population during Military Saves Week Feb. 20 through 27.

Military Saves is an annual national campaign to encourage military families to save money and reduce debt. This year's theme for Hanscom is "Wheel of Fortune."

Special events and activities are planned throughout the week. Youth Programs is planning a contest and workshop for the School Age Program and Youth Center. The A&FRC and HFCU will have tables at Building 1305 and 1614, as well as at the Fitness Center and Base Exchange and Commissary.

At the tables, a Wheel of Fortune game will be set up for people to test their financial knowledge and prizes will be available for everyone.

Special gifts for those willing to sign the Saver's Pledge on www.militarysaves.org will also be given out by HFCU.

Those who enroll in the Saver's Pledge will receive direct communications to the e-mail address provided on a variety of financial topics. This site is co-sponsored by Consumer Federation of America, a nonprofit organization, the Department of Defense Financial Readiness Campaign and in part by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Investor Education Foundation.

The Commissary is also sponsoring a Coupon Saver contest that will run through Feb. 18.

This year marks the fifth year of the Military Saves campaign and the third for its accompanying Military Youth Saves campaign.

"This campaign promotes healthy financial habits for Airmen and their family members by creating awareness of the importance of saving to help them reach their financial and personal goals," said Charles Milam, director of services for Manpower, Personnel and Services in a letter promoting the campaign.
