New procedures in place for assignment notifications Published Jan. 27, 2011 HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Air Force implemented a new Automated Assignment Notification process for active duty members on Jan. 21. The process applies to all active duty members, lieutenant colonel and below, with the exception of basic trainees and pipeline students who will follow the manual assignment notification process. "This process supports the Personnel Service Delivery initiative to offset a 40 percent cut in manpower across the personnel career field at the base level," said Meaghan Meyers, Hanscom's Military Personnel Section (MPS) chief. "This initiative will save an estimated 139,000 man-hours per year." With the new procedures in place, MPS will no longer be the office of primary responsibility for outbound assignments. Once an assignment is loaded by the Air Force Personnel Center, the virtual Military Personnel Flight (vMPF) will send an e-mail to the Airman's e-mail addresses listed in military personnel data systems (MilPDS) and vMPF. The e-mail notifies Airmen of the assignment selection, without assignment details, and directs them to access the vMPF within seven calendar days to acknowledge receipt. Upon accessing the vMPF, the Airman is automatically directed to the official assignment notification page which provides assignment details. This action automatically updates MilPDS with the official assignment notification date and starts the seven day option clock. MPS will still send a two-page report on individual person (RIP) to the Airman's commander for courtesy notification. "Commanders can still use this RIP to work assignment cancellation, if appropriate, and can request report no later than dates and projected departure date changes like they do today," said Ms. Meyers. "The new assignment notification process will not change established procedures to produce orders, nor does it change the policy with assignment cancellations or change of assignment information."
