A little goes a long way with CFC

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- With three weeks remaining in this year's Combined Federal Campaign, base personnel may be interested to know what their donations can provide for a community in Eastern Massachusetts.

Employees who donate a single dollar per week can provide twelve elementary school students tutoring by trained volunteers in the subjects of reading and math, or can provide three 30-minute counseling appointments for health assessments for individuals facing physical, developmental or mental health challenges.

Employees wishing to donate more generously can provide two months of meals for a homebound person or five wigs for children with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, all for $5 per week.

"It's inspiring the level of generosity base personnel demonstrate each year during the CFC campaign," said Capt. Dave Alpar, CFC installation manager. "To understand the impact a donation can make and how it will benefit a family, a school or a community is vital to the charitable giving of Hanscom."

CFC is made up of local campaigns throughout the country. Hanscom is part of CFC of Eastern Massachusetts, which includes other federal organizations such as the National Park Service, FBI, U.S. Postal Service and many more.

The CFC of Eastern Massachusetts' goal this year is $2.4 million.

"By making a contribution to the CFC, you're giving charitable organizations the resources they need to help make lasting progress against these and other challenges," said Hillary Clinton, honorary chair of the 2010 CFC. "If you've contributed in the past, you know how rewarding the program is. If you have never contributed before, now is a great time to start."

There is still time to donate. Hanscom's CFC campaign runs until Nov. 17.
