Hanscom CFC sets goal of $245,000

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. --  The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) kicked off this Wednesday and will continue through Nov. 17. This year, the base's goal is to raise $245,000.

CFC is the only authorized solicitation of federal employees in their workplaces on behalf of approved charitable organizations.

"Last year, Hanscom achieved 125 percent of its goal," said Capt. Dave Alpar, CFC installation manager. "The goal has been raised this year and we hope we can exceed it again."

CFC is made up of local campaigns throughout the country. Hanscom is part of CFC of Eastern Massachusetts, which includes other federal organizations such as the National Park Service, FBI, U.S. Postal Service and many more.

The CFC of Eastern Massachusetts' goal is $2.4 million.

"Hanscom is one of the larger federal organizations in this area," said Judy Agnes, CFC of Eastern Massachusetts campaign executive. "I was amazed at the generosity of the employees last year and I think we can even beat that this year."

Federal employees have a variety of options for giving. They may choose to deduct a certain amount from each paycheck or they may give a one-time donation. If employees choose a payroll deduction, they may do so by either filling out a pledge card or visiting CFC of Eastern Massachusetts website. Once on the site, federal employees may click on "Pledge Now" then follow the instructions.

For those that choose to contribute a one-time donation, they may do so by filling out a pledge card.

"With a payroll deduction, you can give more over time," said Ms. Agnes. "Think of it as giving up one cup of coffee from your favorite coffee shop each pay period to help someone in need."

There are thousands of CFC approved charities that range from local food pantries to international organizations. Employees may also visit the CFC of Eastern Massachusetts website to download a searchable charities list.

"I know budgets are tight, but we'd like to see an increase in donations and we want to make sure that everyone is given a chance to give," said Captain Alpar.
