Special needs information, activity fair to be held Aug. 21 Published Aug. 13, 2010 By Meredith March 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Hanscom recently became one of 27 bases Air Force-wide to receive an Air Force Aid Society grant providing a fun information and referral fair for families of special needs children enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). This family fun day will take place Aug. 21, beginning at 1 p.m., with a special needs information and activity fair at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Building 1218. At 3 p.m., following the fair, per grant guidelines, attending Air Force families will receive passes for an afternoon at Spring Brook Splash Park, located in Bedford, Mass. The information and activity fair will feature representatives from organizations in both military and civilian communities who support special needs families with a variety of services and programs. Through information pamphlets and other materials, demonstrations, discussions with service providers and networking with other parents, EFMP families can learn about local and national resources relevant to their needs and become acquainted with one another. Organizations providing representatives for the fair include: Youth Programs, Family Advocacy, Tricare, Inspiration Through Art, Dog Bones dog therapy program, Special Needs Arts Program, Family Ties of Massachusetts, the Miracle League baseball program, the Community Music Center of Boston, Special Olympics, Military OneSource, the Federation for Children with Special Needs and more. Representatives will also include a school liaison officer and a military and family life consultant. A craft and activity table, snacks and face-painting will be available for children attending the event.
